Remember Cody, a beloved clerk at a BP gas station and convenience store in Clearwater, Florida? Well he is no longer allowed to show up at the store to delight customers.

This lovable chocolate Labrador delighted customers for several months. When customers pulled up to the store’s drive-thru window, Cody would pop up with a smile dog wearing a BP T-shirt and a nametag… customers LOVED the canine service!

Cody’s popularity grew and became a fun news story around the country. The story went semi viral on the internet. Unfortunately among those who read about Cody were state health inspectors. You guessed it… they paid a visit and gave their stern warning:

Either Cody goes, or the Florida Department of Agriculture will declare all of the store’s food products unfit for consumption!

Unbelievable… Now we’re not talking about any fresh food here. All of the store’s food products are either wrapped or bottled. As far as the Florida Department of Agriculture is concerned, the mere presence of Cody means that all Gatorade, Snickers, Sun Chips, Monster Drinks and Bud Light are considered contaminated.

Looks as if customers will be denied service from Cody’s smiling face.

Cody loved going to the store, and being around all the customers, but thanks to an arcane rule about dogs posing a health hazard to food, Cody will have to stay home. Cody will be missed by many happy customers!

That Sucks!
