Play is an important part of the puppy's life. Not only does it provide physical exercise for him but it can also be used as a training aid. When you play with your puppy you increase your bond with him and since you are the one setting the rules, it enhances your role as his leader.
Dogs may be man’s best friend, but dog parks are a dog’s ultimate playground! According to a recent survey, 44 percent of people who take their dogs to a dog park say their dog is more social with other people and dogs than before they took their pet to the dog park. In addition to socialization, dog parks allow dogs the freedom to run around and connect back to nature!
To support local community dog parks and off-leash areas, The Nutro Company is leading an effort called the Room to Run ™: Dog Park Appreciation Project. It is a nationwide effort led by Nutro associates to enhance and revitalize dog parks in 30 cities across the U.S. and Canada.
Community members are encouraged to attend the Room to Run event in Carlsbad on June 19 from 8:00 a.m. until noon at Ann D. L'Heureux Memorial Dog Park, Carlsbad Village Drive East of El Camino Real, Carlsbad. The following enhancement activities will be conducted:
• Planting new trees and landscaping.
• General clean up and beautification.
In an effort to focus on enhancements at the park, pet owners are asked to bring dogs to the park following the event rather than during the event.

Summer is in full swing, and it’s hot out! Many of our canine friends enjoy swimming, and as such, it is important to know how to keep them safe in the water. San Diego is extremely water friendly, offering close proximity to all sorts of bodies of water. Swimming is a great way to get that low impact exercise for your dog, regardless of their fitness level. The following are some important things to consider when letting your dog swim.
Not all breeds of dogs are strong swimmers. Even if they are, you should still take some precautions! Many of the heavy bodied breeds and those with short legs aren’t well adapted for being in the water. They make life jackets for dogs and can be found at Markim Pet Resort or many other pet stores. You can even take them to Cutting Edge K9 for swim lessons. Trish will work with your dog and teach you valuable tips to keep your dog safe.
Also consider the purity of the water! If you are at a dog-friendly beach, such as Fiesta Island, just remember that salt is not good for your dog, and ingesting too much salt water can make your dog sick. Salt will also irritate your dog’s paws and skin. Chemicals in a pool, or algae and bacteria in bodies of fresh water can also irritate your dogs skin or make them sick. Just remember to have lots of clean water for them to drink and rinse them off after their swim!
Most dogs enjoy the water, and as your best friend, you need to make sure they are safe! Enjoy the summer and stay cool!

A Dip in the Ocean Can Dehydrate Your Pooch

Beat the Heat
As you may know one of Dozer’s favorite ways to beat the heat is hitting the surf. Taking our dogs to beach for a cool down is a great remedy to beat the heat! The trip to the ocean provides plenty of fun for both canines and humans alike. If your pooch is like dozer he will be “toes to the nose” for some soul surfing. We need to keep in mind that an increase in exercise will always cause water loss in our dogs even while they are in the water!
